White Hat SEO - Is It Really Better Than Black Hat?
Alright, first things first. Today, we are going to be covering White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO only. Grey hat is for another day, as grey usually just refers to what webmasters are trying to get away with, or testing to find out if they are going to get penalized. Grey hat is where most of our White Hat SEO techniques come from. Face it, if it wasn't for the black hatters getting banned, and us figuring out why they got banned, or the grey hatters testing new methods, us white hatters couldn't grow.
White Hat SEO is just giving Google, and other search engines, what they are looking for. That is relevant content, that is fresh and updated. A search engines job after all, is to provide the best content to searchers. This is why Google has a full team dedicated to crushing web spam, and one of the members, Matt Cutts, gives you a foundation for what Google is looking for.
When I was a teenager, I used Black Hat SEO techniques exclusively. I was expelled from high school, already hacking, phreaking, and cracking, so Black Hat just came natural to me. Once I had a paypal account balance that got noticed by the IRS, and subsequent lawsuits ensued. When I finally got caught, I was far deeper than your normal spammer. Because of my age, I was released, but they have been keeping a very close eye on me. I pay my taxes now, to say the least.
What I learned though, from growing up, getting sued, facing prison time, etc, was that black hat just isn't the way. Sure, it's fun, and addicting, not to mention you can make more money than you can ever imagine. You will never succeed with it though. Your sites get banned on a weekly, if not daily, basis, bank accounts closed, affiliates dropped, etc. There is so much more work obtaining money this way, and so much more risk.
Using White Hat SEO techniques, your links and content are built naturally, by humans, and edited by humans. This, in all reality, is exactly what Google and other engines are looking for. To know that software, or auto generating scripts, weren't being used to generate those links.
